Hello! Thank you for your interest in Sacred Passages. I became an End of Life Doula by completing training through the International End of Life Doula Association (INELDA). Being an End of Life Doula is something I am resolutely drawn to after volunteering for a year or so at an Assisted Living Facility and after my own experiences with deaths of my parents.

As my father spent the last days of his fight with lung cancer, I experienced my own anxiety and fear brought on by symptoms he had that I did not understand. I felt helpless and confused as to how to alleviate his anxiety and suffering. Then, about a year after my father passed, I took care of my mother during a very long battle with Melanoma. She eventually was admitted to a Hospice facility and although the care she received there was wonderful, I know she would have preferred to be home for her final days. During both experiences, I regret that out of fear, we did not discuss dying openly. Instead of avoiding discussions about the end of life, I realize now that we could have spent that time having conversations to explore their life meaning and bring a feeling of completeness for a more peaceful and sacred passing. I wish I had been better prepared or knew how to advocate for them. This is why it is my passion to help the dying and their loved ones be more prepared for the end of life by being a loving presence and providing them with the emotional, spiritual and physical support they need for a more meaningful death.
